Fashion – part of life’s little treats

The other day I was walking past the Louis Vuitton Sydney flagship store on George St and noticed a very cute & clever window display, a giant cupcake with a beautiful LV bag on top.  After all, an Alma LV bag is definitely the cherry on the cake!

That got me thinking about how designers are often combining the use of edible treats in their advertising campaigns.  LV’s SS12 campaign featured models in ice cream parlours feasting on strawberry Sundays, wearing candy pastel coloured dresses and showing off their LV handbags.

Mulberry’s campaign featured giant ice creams and candy for their SS12 collection, the backdrop a sunny day in UK’s Brighton beach.

Models sported pastel coloured dresses down the catwalk, resembling a multi-layered cake.

As kids we love our little treats, candy, ice cream, chocolate.. and as grown ups aren’t fashion fixes our little treat?

At the end of a hard day’s work we love to treat ourselves to a bit of chocolate..  On Friday afternoon, the Haighs store on Pitt St mall was jam packed with customers queuing for a piece of their chocolate (so much so they needed Security guards in both ends of the store!)

After a hard weeks or months’ work we like to treat ourselves to something pretty, after we have been ‘craving’ for a new bag, outfit, shoes… Whether we treating ourselves with candy, chocolate or with fashion, by rewarding ourselves little treats we are actually increasing our life expectancy.

I read that people who shop regularly have a happier outlook and a longer life expectancy.  “According to research published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, shopping often – twice a week or more – makes you live longer… Shopping captures several dimensions of personal wellbeing, health, and security as well as contributing to the community’s cohesiveness and economy, and may represent or actually confer increased longevity.” (Total Living UK, April 2011)

So, there you have it, treating yourself to something deliciously gorgeous is good for you! 🙂
