The second day of Australian Fashion week did not fail to impress, the day started with an array of romantic florals from Nicky & Simone Zimmerman’s collection. Very feminine, pastel coloured florals in peach, pinks, lilacs and mints, washedouttropical blooms and digital petal prints, with laser-cut, perforated textures. Silhouettes were slightly Oriental with high chongsam necklines and kimono-wrap tops and dresses giving a refined feel.
The above design was my favourite, loved the oriental print and contrasting pink and red colours on the white silk gown.
“Maticevski showcased his SS12/ 13 runway collection, which featured ultra-modern, sleek and sophisticated styles with architectural silhouettes and a modern take on the popular peplum resurgence. Always putting a twist on tradition, Maticevski created peplum styles by pleating brocade, layering silks and adding nips and tucks to traditionally flowing fabrics to create bold hips on the willowy models.” (Herald Sun)
If you missed his made-to-order collection last week, this was a must see. Last week “Toni Maticevski decided to slide in early with an intimate presentation of made-to-order pieces in a grand deco space on Sydney’s George Street.. the designer instead surprised with a living exhibition complete with a winter-white paper landscape and models swathed in every shade of ivory.. Sculpted and pleated leather, layers of tulle, panels upon panels of silk and reams of embellished lace came together in ten looks that represented his unfettered creativity. “I was thinking, how far can I take my ideas and how far can I push fabrics and combinations?” he says. “It’s very much about how decadent I can be, without having to worry about selling or what the consequences at retail are.” .. The clothes appeared more like works of art. (Vogue Australia)
I absolutely loved this ivory dress – a strapless satin-back crepe cocktail-length dress with a fine tulle neckline and ruffles flowing to the ankle – the layers resembling the icing on a wedding cake.
Tomorrow we have another busy day with great Australian designers including Lisa Ho, Alice McCall, Bec & Bridge, Ellery, and with all the hype of their collections of late, we look forward to seeing what Oroton has in store, as they launch their first apparel collection.
