I really want to share the AW 13 collection of a new talented designer, Yifang Wan. Somehow I managed to nab myself front row seats at the show in Freemason’s Hall. She is a Central St Martin’s graduate that won the L’Oreal Professional Young Designer Award at Central St Martins in 2010.
This year, after just one other collection, she is the winner of the Fashion Scout Merit Award, and showed a beautiful restrained collection, with simple linear shapes and a paired down colour palette of deep blue, black, burgundy and emerald green in cashmere wool. The accessories of sharp sword like bracelets and belts were beautifully paired with elegant long coats and dresses in fluid architectural cuts. I loved the mix of high neck collars and sharp open collars in the dresses and coats.
The simple natural make-up and hair and the detail of the silver nail polish that matched the accessories demonstrates how elegant one can be with subtle statement detail.
