Like many of you I grew up watching the Oscars. The highlight for me, as for many fashion lovers, is what happens before the Oscars, watching the stars walk down the red carpet in their breathtaking dresses. Over the years there have been many designers that have dressed the stars on the red carpet, but there is one designer whose incredible creations are instantly recognisable for its feminine silhouettes, timeless style, intricate detailing and elegant designs, and of course that is none other than the late Oscar de La Renta.
The Dominican American fashion designer worked for Elizabeth Arden, Balenciaga & Lanvin before he launched his own eponymous label in 1965. Since then, Oscar has been dressing stars and fashion icons from Audrey Hepburn to royalty (including Princess Diana), and has also dressed many first ladies in the US White House including Nancy Ragan, Laura Bush & most recently Michelle Obama.

A favourite designer to our fashion icons, I thought I’d share my favourite Oscar red carpet moments.

Oscar also worked as Head Designer for fashion house Balmain from 1993 – 2002, and in 2006 his label diversified to Bridal wear.
What bride-to-be doesn’t dream of wearing an Oscar down the altar?
I was very sad to hear about this great designer’s recent death on Monday at the age of 82, after fighting a battle with cancer since 2006.
Here is to a great fashion legend.
The epitome of style.

One day I would love to ‘win’ myself an Oscar! 😉
