“All that glitters is not gold.” a famous verse by William Shakespeare (the Merchant of Venice) which may sometimes be true, but alas, we still love shiny glittery things.. Shiny cars, shiny jewellery and shiny clothes & shoes. 😉
Which is why we like the Metallic movement seen on the runways this season. Our favourite designers including Altazurra, Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbanna, Dries Van Noten, Givenchy, Haider Ackerman, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Shouler and Phillip Lim showcased shiny metallics in their SS14 collections.
From full floor-length sequinned gowns by Givenchy to colourful metallics by Lanvin, beaded dresses by Dolce & Gabanna and golden brocade dresses by Dries Van Noten.
Altazurra’s collection included long metallic dresses in silver and gold, and metallic jackets and skirts with paired down with classic white wardrobe staples.
Inspired by the latest metallic collections, I thought it was a great excuse to bring out some of the shiny items that lay hidden in my wardrobe. I was lucky enough to receive this fun silver neckpiece by Phillip Lim from my fabulous sister @London’adorais, which I paired with a few Burberry pieces that I’ve collected over my years working for Burberry and have been dying to take a spin in the city.
Out in the city, wearing my shiny metallics and my favourite Burberry Prorsum olive leather coat and Alexander McQueen steel capped boots.
Other silver looks that made it to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sydney (MBFSS14) at Carriageworks earlier this year.
Manoush Lace black lace dress, Burberry Prorsum silver trench & degrade bag & black flat boots from London.
Preen graphic print dress (another lovely gift from my sister ;), Burberry Prorsum silver jacket & clutch, Burberry bracelet worn as a necklace, Miu Miu ankle wedge boots.
J’adorais shiny metallics. That little shine adds a little touch of glamour to your outfit. 😉
What about you, what are the shiny things you love?
