Fashion Week 2016 Highlights

It’s been another amazing week at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2016 (MBFWA 2016).   There were so many beautiful shows, stunning collections, and of course, fun & fabulous streetstyles.  After another whirlwind week it’s time for me to share with you some of the highlights of the week.

It should be fitting that our amazingly talented designer, Toni Maticevski, who dominated Fashion Week’s headlines last year with his jaw-dropping Dior-like resort 16 collection, should be chosen to open this year’s fashion week.

Toni Maticevski’s opening show was held at the beautiful backdrop of exposed bricks and concrete columns at the Cutaway at Barangaroo Reserve.

Toni wowed us with an array striking dresses, beautiful feminine silhouettes, in contrast to the “pretty” ball gowns of last year’s collection, this 2017 resort collection delivered a more modern edge, with bold separate pieces paired with sculptured neck pieces in gold and silver.

Some of the highlights of this year’s collection included this stunning white off-shoulder ruffled white gown.

Absolutely loved this yellow strapless column reverse-tiered dress. Combined with a gold sculptured neckpiece.

Loved the sculptured neckpieces in gold and silver, combined with each of his stunning designs.

Toni’s designs this year had a modern edge, with layered separates, different fabrics combined with textured layering.

Loved this oversized textured white coat below (on right).maticevski-resort-17-myer-17v2

I loved his combination of layering and use of different fabrics and leather, converting the feminine corset to a modern-leather waist-piece to give the look some edge.

My video wrap up of the collection on instagram below.

After the show, with the beautiful backdrop at Barangaroo, I wore a wine-colour peplum dress by Ellery, heart-clutch by Alexander McQueen, gold cuff by Mawi and ankle boots by Miu Miu.

With my dear sister Clarice (@brigadeirochoc), who just arrived in Sydney in time for the opening show.  Clarice wore a dress by Edit, Celine coat, boots and bag.

It was definitely a great start to this year’s Fashion Week, and also one of my favourite shows of the week.

Stay tuned as I share some of the other highlights of this year’s MBFWA, direct from Sydney’s Carriageworks. You can also see some of the highlights on instagram @jadorais xx

Note: Some of the above runway pics were by PopSugar and Myer as some of my own pics didn’t do the dresses justice.
