Favourite MBFWA Fashion Week Moments

I can’t believe it’s already been a week since the fun & frantic, yet fabulous Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia swept me of my feet.  As I mentioned in my last post, it was amazing week, starting with that jaw-dropping opening collection by the inspirational Toni Maticevski.   There were so many other great collections throughout the week, here are my favourite MBFWA 2016 moments.

MACGRAW Resort 2017’s fun & playful ‘Parisian Chic’ collection

We loved seeing the Macgraw sister’s collection last year, and this year Sydney-based sisters Beth & Tessa Macgraw brought us a very fun, playful and feminine show.

With a backdrop of a ‘Parisian inspired’ ornate pink building, the models walked through pink French doors to the soundtrack of powerful female vocalists, including the likes of Beyonce.  The collection featured beautiful prints, floral prints in pastel colours, and their signature lace looks were combined with velvet separate suits and pinafore dresses.

Loved the china-blue floral dress below.

The gorgeous tiered-lace dresses below, complete with bow detailing, very ‘Parisian chic’.

Manning Cartell’s collection in the most beautiful backdrop

Our other Australian designer sister trio, Sisters Cheryl, Vanessa and Gabrielle Manning could not have chosen a more iconic and impressive backdrop to showcase their resort 2017 collection.  With a runway set up underneath Sydney’s iconic harbour bridge, and the Opera House on the backdrop, this year’s collection brought us a number of beautiful sleek dresses in bold gold, red colours and beautiful prints.

Kit Willow’s triumphant return to fashion week with signature styles in KITX Resort 2017 collection

Kit Willow has been one of my favourite designers for years, and I was so excited when she returned to the fashion scene August last year with her new label KITX.  This year she made the return to MBFWA fashion week with a beautiful collection featuring he signature sleek and feminine draping, grecian – inspired dresses as well as tailored suits and separates flattering the feminine silhouettes.

Emerging designers – Anna Quan Resort 2017

This year a number of great emerging designers showcased at fashion week, for me the highlight from the Next Generation show was Anna Quan’s minimalist collection, featuring tailored shirts with oversized sleeves and sleek dresses.

The Innovators – Jessica Van’s resort Collection 2017

Highlight from the Innovators show was Jessica Van’s collection, featuring voluminous dresses and striking silhouettes.

Closing show by Oscar De La Renta

And of course, what could be more spectacular than a closing show by the iconic Oscar de La Renta, featuring a colourful collection of classic feminine dresses, featuring some lace and florals and aplique, from three quarter length day dresses and suits to beautiful ball gowns.

Above: Tulle gown in deep blue and black, so very Sex-in-the-City. 😉

Loved the beaded detailing of the dress with contrasting pink and bright orange bodice, with the embroidered skirt.

It wouldn’t be an Oscar show without a stunning finale, a beautiful bride walking down the catwalk with an ethereal bridal gown.

What an amazing week.  I loved seeing all the inspiring collections by our Australian Designers, our pool of talented designers grows from strength to strength each year with beautiful, unique and bold collections, in the same playing field as renown International Designers.

Stay tuned for more MBFWA fashion fun. Next post I’ll be sharing some of the MBFWA streetstyles. Have a great weekend! 😉

Note: Some of the catwalk picture sources are from Grazia & Honeyas they did better justice than those on my iphone.  All videos from the shows are my own. 😉
