Dion Lee’s Opening Fashion Week Show at Sydney Opera House

What an amazing week at Fashion Week. It’s nice to finally kick-off the killer heels I was running around in at fashion week and share some of the amazing fashion moments of last week’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia 2017.

It’s funny to think that this time last year I attended Fashion Week whilst 4-months pregnant with my now 6-month old baby boy.  Last year I disguised my baby bump with voluminous outfits (with the help of one my favourite designers, Ellery (see J’adorais Streetstyle 2016).  This year, I celebrated getting back into some items in my wardrobe that have been dying to come out and play.  What better time to play dress up than at Fashion Week, and there is no better occasion to pull out some statement pieces than at Dion Lee’s opening Fashion Week show, held at Sydney’s iconic Opera House.

I love combining new items in my wardrobe with treasured items in my wardrobe ‘collection’, as well as combining Australian Designers with International Designers’ pieces.  I had been wanting to wear this beautiful runway skirt by Michael lo Sordo, and combined it with a beautiful silk scarfe with cherry blossoms print worn as a top (I’m obsessed with cherry blossoms! ;), designed by my friend and talented designer Rhamya Freitas, from Get me to New York (GM2NY).

This year it is also all about statement earrings, I wore these sculptured oversized earrings by Manning Cartell and cat-eye sunglasses by Ellery.

It was a cool autumn afternoon in Sydney, I topped off the look with a Lanvin nude trench coat, Christian Louboutin patent leather pumps and Yves Saint Laurent bag.

You couldn’t pick a better location for an opening show, on the steps of the Opera House, and Sydney’s rainy weather opened up with some beautiful skies just in time for the show.

Dion Lee’s resort 18 collection featured some beautifully tailored pieces in bold primary colours, red, cobalt blue, gold and white.  The beautiful geometric cuts stood out among the backdrop of the Opera House’s iconic sails.

The collection also featured some beautiful accessories, including these statement felt hats with razor cut-out detailing.

It was a beautiful collection, classic pieces with a slight twist.  I loved the double breasted tailored vests in blue and white.

Dion Lee’s known for his impeccable tailoring, loved these suits in check, patent, and classic white double breasted trench.Slide3

Silk dresses with beautiful silhouettes and detailed draping, as well as his signature bandeau-cut dress.

Dion Lee’s menswear collection also featured beautiful tailored suits, bright coloured trench coats and sporty-luxe bomber jackets and lounge suit pants.Slide5

Part of the fun of fashion week is also people watching. I loved seeing our esteemed designer, Toni Maticevski (who did the most amazing opening show for Fashion Week last year) sitting on the front row opposite us (below in tweed jacket) and observing his expressions and reactions to the show and his colleague’s designs.

What a fashionable entourage, designer Toni Maticevski and some of my favourite Australian fashion icons, models, mums & business women Lindy Klim and Tanja Gagic (@Myempericallife) at the steps of the Opera House after the show.

The other highlight of fashion week was enjoying all the amazing fashion fun with my dear sister Clarice (@brigadeirochoc) who flew in for Fashion week.

I also enjoyed the shows and streetstyles with my dear friend, fellow Fashion Stylist and Style Doctor, Kash O’Hara (TheStyleDoctor).

Finally, very excited that my look for day 1 was featured on Vogue’s “best in street style from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia”.
